This is the A road that runs down the whole Aosta valley. If you want to avoid the autostrada between passes in this valley, s is really your only choice. In places, it has some nice riding, and some just carries so much traffic it’s just not worth it. The run though Aosta is particularly slow, but it is the way it is.
On the positive side, there are castles, forts and other notable old things all the way up this valley. The cost of going up this valley in the middle ages must have been staggering, with every land owner taking their toll along the way. There are also some really nice stretches of road the further you get from Aosta.
In Summary; it’s worthy of a ride if you’re not in too much of a hurry to get up or down the valley.
