From the La Mure end the road gradually rises up into the mountains. It snakes and winds rather than being very twisty. The northern side is more intense and twisty.
The scenery is very nice, alpine meadows plus some bare rock cliffs and hanging-valleys. The surface is good, but with a lot of overbanding.
