While we consider this a connector road up to the big passes from the Valais, it is a destination route itself. Leaving Brig you wind your way up the canyon. The corners are fluid, the scenery is beautiful, the road surface is sublime, the only downside is the traffic which can be heavy in peak season.
You get some very typical Swiss scenery up this road including picturesque meadows with fluffy cows, to houses built perched on stone platforms that are hanging out into the road. There are plenty of photo ops up this route if you can be bothered to stop and get out your camera.
At the top of this road you are left with one of the most difficult decisions in the world: Do I turn right and go to Italy over the Nufenen Pass, turn right and go over the the Grimsal, or plow on strait ove the Frurka. Life is tough!
